So the town wants to collect a fee to cover wash maintenance. Just be glad they didn’t buy the water company back in the day. Today you would be paying your current water bill plus an equal amount in junk fees.
This town has a misallocation of funds problem. The serious money fund pays for police, fire, streets etc. The fun money fund pays for frivolous, but fun, projects.
When the town spent fun money to the tune of $1.5 million on the Avenue of the Fountains median and $700,000 on Fountain Park path lights, disliked by many people, also a parking lot redo that added four whole parking spaces, it came up short on serious money.

That’s why the residents got stuck with an $8 million bond issue to redo Saguaro Blvd.
We need people on the Town Council who understand that it isn’t their job to spend the residents’ money on every hare-brained idea from a group of volunteers the town invited to come together and figure out how to spend money the town doesn’t have on stuff the town doesn’t need.
This list or general plan is the thinking of a small group special interest folks, not the word of God from on high to be followed without question.
We need a Town Council that is able to resist the urge to spend fun money and at the same time is willing to fix their park light mistake by removing the lights.
Future fun money projects should be approved by a majority of the registered voters. Not voting should be a no vote. This would reduce fiscal waste and the need for extra fees or a recall petition.
