When the Town Council meets this week its agenda includes a closed executive session to discuss the town’s contract with Rural/Metro Corp.

The current fiscal year is the final year of a five-year contract with the company to provide fire and emergency medical services here.

During the current fiscal year the town will pay Rural/Metro about $3.5 million.

This opening contractual discussion comes on the heels of an announcement early this month that Rural/Metro is seeking to reorganize using Chapter 11 bankruptcy regulations (see separate story).

The council has another fire department related item on the agenda.

It will consider a $390,953 construction contract for a major renovation and addition to Fire Station 1 on Palisades Boulevard. Vertical Build, LLC of Scottsdale has submitted the low bid for that project (see separate story).

The council is also being asked to consider a budget transfer to cover the cost of emergency repairs to one of the Fountain pumps.

The transfer is in the amount of $20,653 from the Administration Department contingency to Community Services Park maintenance.

The repairs include a valve and a broken shaft on one of the pumps.

The council will consider a municipal sponsorship and license agreement with Fountain Hills Little League to allow the league to install and maintain new scoreboards on the baseball fields at Golden Eagle Park.

This item was up for consideration earlier, but was delayed until the legal framework was put in place.

The council will also consider a resolution to adopt a municipal sponsorship and naming rights policy for the town.

Councilwoman Ginny Dickey and Public Safety Advisory Commission member Carol Comito will make a presentation relating to activities of the Maricopa Association of Governments Regional Domestic Violence Council.

They will discuss issues relating to domestic violence and human trafficking.

Dickey sits on the MAG Regional Domestic Violence Council and will be asking the council to consider a resolution in support of the End Violence Against Women International Start by Believing Campaign.

This campaign has the objective of raising awareness and the public’s response to sexual assault.

Additional agenda items include consideration of a Community Center Kitchen Policy and a request from Fountain Hills High School to have students design and paint a mural on the wall of the Fountain Park pump house.

The council is also receiving a report on progress in implementing the council strategic goals and operational priorities for the 2012-13 fiscal year.

The council meets Thursday, Aug. 15, in council chambers at Town Hall at 6:30 p.m. This session is open to the public.

The closed executive session is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.
