Tour de Scottsdale takes to local roads Oct. 11

Whether a casual bike enthusiast or a professional cyclist focusing on speed, the 12th annual Tour de Scottsdale is recruiting riders for Sunday, Oct. 11.

Participants can choose a 30-mile or 70-mile route around the McDowell Sonoran Preserve and through Scottsdale, Carefree, Tonto Verde, Rio Verde and Fountain Hills.

The 12th annual Tour de Scottsdale is presented by Oliver Smith Jewelers. Hosted by the DC Ranch Community Council, the event is capped at 2,000 cyclists and benefits the McDowell Sonoran Conservancy. The non-profit conservation organization protects and promotes the preserve.

Whether a casual bike enthusiast or a professional cyclist focusing on speed, the 12th annual Tour de Scottsdale is recruiting riders for Sunday, Oct. 11.

Participants can choose a 30-mile or 70-mile route around the McDowell Sonoran Preserve and through Scottsdale, Carefree, Tonto Verde, Rio Verde and Fountain Hills.

The 12th annual Tour de Scottsdale is presented by Oliver Smith Jewelers. Hosted by the DC Ranch Community Council, the event is capped at 2,000 cyclists and benefits the McDowell Sonoran Conservancy. The non-profit conservation organization protects and promotes the preserve.

Eligible are mountain bikes, recumbents and hand bikes. Aero-type and other similar auxiliary handlebars are prohibited; this includes tri-bikes with otherwise unremovable aerobars.

The races begin and finish at Market Street at DC Ranch (Thompson Peak Parkway and Pima Road, Scottsdale).

A vendor expo includes exhibits by cycling retailers, food and live music.

The 70-mile race starts at 6:30 a.m., followed by the 30-mile field at 6:40 a.m.

Registration for the 70-mile route is $150 from Oct. 1-11; add $25 for tandem. The fee for the 30-mile route is $90 from Oct. 1-11; add $15 for tandem.
