To Your Health celebrates 25 years of educating public

In the 25 years of To Your Health’s existence, the foremost motive of owner Margy Squires has been educating the public about supplements.

What started as a mail order company on Colony Drive in 1994 has expanded into a retail presence at 12005 Saguaro Blvd., suite 102. Walk-in customers can purchase natural supplements instead of ordering online or through the catalog.

The business will celebrate its anniversary throughout January. A Chamber of Commerce re-opening is scheduled for 4 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 16. Squires invites anyone to attend and register for weekly drawings for gift baskets and store certificates.

Teaching comes naturally to Squires, who earned a Bachelor of Science degree in education.

“I like to teach people so they will know things and why they are taking a certain supplement,” said Squires.

Research shows that supplements help in attaining a healthy lifestyle, “but most people don’t have the skills or time to know which supplements help what,” said Squires.

She believes in sharing her knowledge and experience. She has researched and written more than 300 articles about natural therapies for fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, arthritis and chronic pain for her company newsletter. She consults an advisory panel of health care specialists.

Initially, Squires was inspired by the successful experience that her husband, David, had with natural therapies for his fibromyalgia, and her personal knowledge of celiac.

They started a support group for people with FMS in 1993 to educate individuals about the illness. At one time, membership hovered at around 1,000 people looking for answers for a disorder at a time when few were available and no books were written on the subject.

To Your Health sponsored the first Arizona fibromyalgia conference in conjunction with the Arthritis Foundation in the Community Center. Renowned physician and author, Dr. Mark Pellegrino, of Ohio Rehab spoke.

“There are no magic pills. You have to be your own best advocate,” said Squires, encouraging individuals to become a team with their health care providers.

What’s in store for the future?

“Let’s keep moving forward. Albert Einstein once said, ‘Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance, you must keep moving.’

“Balancing your health requires motion, too. Moving into the future, forging new paths and changing when change is the better thing to do.”

She will offer free classes, online contests and new products to balance health and life. One of the newest offerings is hemp extract (CBD oil) that is reported to help anxiety, issues with sleep and ease joint and muscle aches and pains.
