I’ve been intending to write a letter to The Times complimenting December’s holiday lighting display along Avenue of the Fountains—the most beautiful that I can recall during my 12 years in Fountain Hills. A big thank you to all who were involved.

Now comes news that the Chinese festival will return in December. While it’s great to have interesting cultural events in town, I'm sad to think what the town center will look like at Christmas time—lovely holiday lighting along the avenue juxtaposed with a super-tall chain link fence plastered in tacky red & yellow plastic, occupying half the park for two weeks. Ugh!

If town administration has indeed committed to host this event repeatedly some negotiation needs to be done to ensure that it doesn’t look like a third-rate carnival has taken up residence in the park.
