Think positive

Myself, husband and some friends from North Scottsdale attended the Chinese Lantern Festival on Saturday evening a week and a half ago.

The festival and festivities were even more delightful and enjoyable than we expected! Our friends were so impressed with what a great happening this was for our community and we thoroughly agreed.

I, personally, can only say shame on those of you whose reaction to this was very negative. Why can’t we focus on the positive…smiles are much more attractive than frowns.

Let’s see…the hotels were filled with not only visitors but also numerous workers. Those same people had to eat as did some of the people who came to see the festival --what a business plus for our local restaurants and businesses.

In addition, the great exposure to the beauty of our town and of course bottom line, a little tax revenue doesn’t hurt either.

Now, let’s think about the $12 charge per adult…didn’t anyone think or realize that there were numerous expenses inclusive of building the lanterns in China, the shipping to California and transportation from California? What about the extensiveness of the labor intensive work of the crew to assemble these lanterns? Any event, be it small or large scale, involves a great deal of behind the scenes work and money.

We need to all look to the future and as to how the festival will grow each year and become more spectacular. Don’t forget folks this was year number one. Give credit where credit is due and think positive.

Thank you Mayor Linda and to all of the people who had a part in putting this festival together inclusive of the volunteers. My hat goes off to all of you for showcasing our beautiful town, Fountain Hills!
