I am forced to reflect on recent attitudes I’ve witnessed here in Fountain Hills.
So, in planning to write an opinion, I decided that I would probably mention how some officials are using the power of words to inflame and exacerbate otherwise straightforward issues. I would likely call out, with some nostalgia, a lack of respect in our current rhetoric, comparing that to a time when some of us were happily contributing to our literal vision for the future.
I would wish to let folks know that it is not leadership to belittle town staff or any other person, and that disagreements are no excuse for online and verbal attacks between neighbors. I would point out the importance of truth and unity and the need for optimistic, mature and professional representatives. Maybe I’ll write as a member of the Rally Committee, which was a Unity Rally at its inception. I may even mention how it was hurtful that someone questioned the motives of this grassroots committee, noting my sadness that folks are acting as if they have never heard of something called The Golden Rule. I was thinking I would write something like that.
