The valuable role played by the River of Time Museum in Fountain Hills

OPINION — “We cannot lose our little River of Time Museum.” This is a statement of possible personal loss, but also a sad commentary on what we value in our community. Our town is special because of the people who have lived here and their commitment to volunteerism.

It was a long struggle to pass the bond issue that financed the museum/library. It was another long struggle to find funds to build exhibits and ready the facility for its grand opening in 2003. Large donations came from the town, Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation, corporations and individual donors. Hundreds of people spent endless hours through those years to make the museum a reality. Once open, accreditation came quickly from the AZ State Historical Society.

The museum is and has been a source of fun, information and education. Through the years, many classes of children and group tours have passed through the museum. Individuals throughout the valley and tourists have come through our doors. Researchers have also visited our archives. Local citizens bring in items they have found or questions seeking answers.
