Congressional Republicans, with very small majorities, deserve credit for passing a huge budget bill. However, they built in timelines to ensure that the most onerous portions of the bill don’t go into effect until after the 2026 midterms, or 2028 Presidential elections, thus guaranteeing that Democrats will get blamed if they should regain power.
This atrocious bill gives trillions in tax cuts to the wealthiest Americans and large corporations, while robbing $1 trillion from essential programs like Medicaid, SNAP and other vital areas that will hurt seniors, children and hard-working families.
*It includes $715 billion in cuts to Medicaid over 10 years, which are expected to cause 13 million Americans of all ages to lose health care coverage and jeopardize the operation of hospitals and nursing homes, especially in rural areas where many hospitals will be forced to close.
