The future of Fountain Hills hangs in the balance

Posted

Sprouts Farmers Market is coming to Four Peaks Plaza Shopping Center (Target center). This marks a significant step forward in the reimagining of the Shea corridor.

As our Economic Development Director Amanda Jacobs said, “The Fountain Hills residents have been asking for a specialty grocery store ... Attracting Sprouts Farmers Market would not have been possible without the vision of the property owner, Sandor, and the Fountain Hills Town Council approving zoning changes in January 2024.”

But no thanks to councilmembers Skillicorn, Larrabee and mayor Friedel! They voted against approving the reimagining of the Target center because their self-interests appear to be in direct conflict with those of the town and its residents. And now, with the new councilmembers who support the backward views of those that voted against the redevelopment, we must cross our fingers as the Sprouts project moves forward.

Let your councilmembers know not to mess it up! We also want other businesses to “sprout” up on the Shea corridor. We also want more housing, such as the upscale apartments planned, to sprout up on the Shea corridor. We want our Shea corridor to be more vibrant.

Don’t let Skillicorn, Larrabee and Mayor Friedel take us back to gravel and dirt or, worse, take us forward to Sun City East. The last election brought two more councilmembers like the three above who voted poorly. Email them all that we must embrace progress on Shea, not continued business shuttering.

And vote, next time, for leaders like councilmembers McMahon and Kalivianakis, who want only the best for our special place and not the hidden agendas of the other councilmembers. We are at a dangerous point concerning our town’s future. Shea growth, town growth and even our schools are in jeopardy. We must all speak up.
