The history of the church can be found on its website. In the 1970s, a group of United Methodists in town decided to form a church. They began meeting in homes and as more families moved into town, the group started meeting in a conference room at the Community Bank and Kiwanis building.
They received their first part-time minister, Rev. Buddie Johnson, in 1987 and moved into a building on Enterprise Drive. The church received its certificate of organization on March 20, 1988, and became the First United Methodist Church of Fountain Hills.
A building was purchased and remodeled in 1991 and the church changed its name to The Fountains, A United Methodist Church.
Two lots were purchased at the corner of Glenbrook and Fountain Hills Blvd. in 2001. An 8,000-square-foot sanctuary was built. An existing house on the property was remodeled for church offices and classrooms.
Worship services were held at the neighboring Middle School during construction. The first service in the new sanctuary was Nov. 30, 2003.
Rev. David Felten, current pastor, came to the church in 2006.
