I am continually pleased with the productions at the Fountain Hills Theater. Last Friday, the theater’s newest offering, “The Foreigner,” opened. Again, it is outstanding.
The story is of an Englishman, a bit reclusive, who comes to a Georgia fishing lodge to escape, but does not feel comfortable interacting with the locals. So, he claims to be from a far-off land and unable to understand English. Everyone at the lodge then feels free to talk about their secrets in front of him. The result is hilarious.

Ben Harris plays the Foreigner, Charlie. The rants and raves in a made-up foreign language, the facial expressions and the general antics he creates are thoroughly impressive. Shari Watts, who plays the lodge owner, Betty, was so authentic I thought she was really from Georgia. She is not. Director Ben Tyler has put together the best of the best. The cast’s comedic timing was top notch.
There is something special about this live performance. It is personal. You bond with the actors and wonder at their talent. I felt like I was a guest in this zany lodge and, boy, did I have fun. Like the theater’s last performance, “The Producers,” this will be a smash hit. The show only runs for two more weekends, so get your tickets early.
