During a recent visit to the Community Center, I walked over to the new $28M International Dark Sky Discovery Center. The building, with observatory and telescope, is an impressive addition to the town complex and will be a major boost to the town’s economy.
As I walked towards the main entrance my eyes were drawn to a much less impressive view – the site for Park Place III, with its unsightly fence, random construction materials and job trailer. Not a great first impression of the town for the many expected Discovery Center visitors.
Last January, Mayor Friedel, in his first state-of-the-town presentation, said that Park Place II would be breaking ground downtown by the end of March, 2025. As of this week, the ground is undisturbed at the sites for Park Place II and Park Place III. Except for a closed Site Plat application, a check of the town’s online permitting system yielded no permits being issued for either of the sites.
