The debate

We face challenges, including government spending, taxes, debt, threats to our God-given rights, and the size and role of government.

The debate on how to address these issues continues, often becoming spirited, emotional, and even contentious, but being involved in the process is vital. The ability to engage in debate is a foundation of our republic, and knowledge is the basis upon which to formulate one’s arguments.

In 1765, John Adams wrote, “Liberty cannot be preserved without a general knowledge among the people, who have a right, from the frame of their nature, to knowledge, as their great Creator, who does nothing in vain, has given them understandings, and a desire to know…Let us dare to read, think, speak, and write. Let every order and degree among the people rouse their attention and animate their resolution. Let them all become attentive to the grounds and principles of government,…in a word let every sluice of knowledge be opened and set a-flowing…”

Fountain Hills AZ Tea Party exists as one source of knowledge and information. This month, we meet on Tuesday, April 16, to follow John Adams’ advice. We will welcome Mayor Linda Kavanagh for an update on local issues. State Representative John Kavanagh is also expected to attend and provide some timely information. As always, there will be abundant opportunity to ask questions, get answers, and share opinions.

All are invited and welcome. Admission is free, but donations to offset expenses are gratefully accepted. Fountain Hills AZ Tea Party meets at the Fountain Hills School District Learning Center on Tuesday, April 16, at 6:30 p.m. Doors open at 6:15 p.m. for cookies and conversation. Mark your calendars. Bring a friend. Come to listen, learn, and join the debate.
