Ted Mackiewicz, age 93, of Tonto Verde and Fountain Hills passed away on Sept. 24, 2018. Having overcome stage four lung cancer, Ted finally succumbed to complications related to the cancer treatment. Ted was born on June 21, 1925 in Irvington, N.J. to Waclaw and Helen Mackiewicz.
Ted grew up in New Jersey and attended Cranford High School. Immediately following graduation Ted joined the US Navy and served in the South Pacific during WWII where he became a decorated war veteran participating in many of the great battles of the WWII in the South Pacific.
After the war he took a job with the A&P grocery chain and did freelance photography for Life Magazine. Ted met his wife Cecelia at a CYO dance in Cranford and married her in 1950. He attended night school and graduated from Rutgers University in 1969.
Ted worked for Fedders, Azoplate and American Hoechst Corporation from which he retired in 1988 as Senior VP of Engineering. Ted and his wife sold their home in New Jersey in 1992 and headed west. After a brief stay in Colorado they moved to Arizona living in Desert Mountain and Tonto Verde.
Ted and Cecelia were married for 60 years and are survived by their six children, Edward, Susan, John, James, Glenn and Jeffery along with 12 grandchildren.
Throughout his life Ted was a giver, always willing to help friends and family no matter what the cost was to him. Ted traveled extensively during his business years throughout Europe, Asia, Africa and South American but his favorite destination prior to retiring was always Long Beach Island, NJ where he spent summers with family.
Ted will be deeply missed by his family and the many friends he accumulated over the years. There will be a big void in many lives without him. However, there is consolation in the fact that he has now rejoined his beloved wife, Cecelia who he has deeply missed since her passing in 2010.
A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, Oct. 20 at 10 a.m. at Church of the Ascension in Fountain Hills, Arizona. Interment, with Military Honors, will follow at 12 noon in Holy Redeemer Cemetery located at 23015 N Cave Creek Rd., Phoenix, AZ 85024.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society at cancer.org/involved/donate/memorial-giving.html.
