Maricopa County District 2 Supervisor Steve Chucri will be the featured speaker at Republican Club meeting Saturday, Sept. 19, at the Fountain Hills Community Center at 9 a.m.
He will be emphasizing the recent accomplishments of the five-member board in developing the $2.2 million 2016 budget for the county.
For the past 13 years, Chucri has served as president and CEO of the Arizona Restaurant Association.
He credits that experience for his decision to run for public office, and in 2014, he won the election for District 2 on the county board.
Since taking office in January, 2013 he and fellow supervisors have been focused on adopting policies that enhance the business climate by eliminating excessive regulations and employing strategies that will make it more attractive and affordable to operate a business in Maricopa County.
A native of Mesa, Chucri is an alumnus of Brophy College Preparatory and went on to obtain his post-secondary degree in business administration at the University of San Diego.
He spent six years on Capitol Hill working for Congressman Matt Salmon, which afforded him the opportunity to travel around the world on delegation trade missions.
He is especially proud of his Lebanese heritage and the valuable lessons he learned from his grandfather Tony Coury, who could not read or write but whose hard work and perseverance allowed him to become the first licensed automobile dealer in the state of Arizona.
Chucri and his wife Christine have two sons.
Attendees are encouraged to arrive at 8:30 a.m. for complimentary coffee and breakfast snacks during the “Meet and Greet” period.
September’s monthly social night will return to Sapori D'Italia Tuesday, Sept. 22 at 6 p.m.
These monthly casual get-togethers provide an opportunity for members to get to know each other and to provide an opportunity for potential members to learn more about the organization. No political speakers or political speeches, just interesting conversation.
No reservations are necessary for either the meeting or the social nights.
A special event that will require reservations will be the Fall Forum on Saturday, Oct. 17, from 4-6 p.m. at the Fountain Hills Presbyterian Church Hall, 13001 N. Fountain Hills Boulevard.
Elected GOP officials and announced candidates for 2016 will be invited to participate in the forum. The cost of the buffet meal will be $15 for members who pre-pay and $18 for non-members or payment at the event. Children 12 and under are free.
Reservations and payment may be made at the September meeting and social night; by check made out to the Fountain Hills Republican Club and mailed to P.O. Box 17814, Fountain Hills 85269-7814. Treasurer Nicole Oswald will also accept reservations at 480-837-7878 or replady2015@outlook.com.
The Honorable Michele Reagan, Arizona Secretary of State, will be the club’s speaker at its Nov. 21 meeting.
