Summer begins

It looks like summer is officially upon us. The class of 2019 is set to graduate this Friday, which leads straight into the Memorial Day weekend. Winter visitors are hitting the road for cooler climates while many local clubs and organizations are dropping into a lower gear in order to coast through the summer months.

The staff of The Times would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the latest flock of Falcon graduates. You can read all about their scholastic achievements and plans for the future in the Graduation 2019 insert included in this week’s edition of the paper, as well additional detail on Fountain Hills Middle and Charter School ceremonies, scholarship recipients, ceremony details and the like.

Couple graduation with the holiday weekend and we’d also like to encourage our readers to have fun, but stay safe in the coming days. Be extra cautious on the roads if you’re heading out of town for the holiday, keep an eye on youngsters around the water and mind the grill if you decide to cook up some tasty treats.

After that, hopefully those of you in town on Monday will remember to drop by the Veterans Memorial in Fountain Park. The Memorial Day event is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. and everyone is invited to join their neighbors and local veterans for a morning of remembrance.

Finally, just because it’s summer doesn’t mean there’s nothing to do around town. Keep an eye on these pages for activities taking place at local parks, the Community Center, the library and more. Town staff likes to keep everyone busy even while other activities around town are winding down, with plenty of programs geared toward just about every interest imaginable. If you need a refresher on what’s in the pipeline, feel free to visit fh.az.gov/recreation.
