The Fountain Hills Friends of the Library (FHFL) recently hosted its third Storytellers event at the Fountain Hills Community Center where six speakers shared stories of their lives.
As a community-based project meant to mirror the tales featured by NPR’s “The Moth Radio Hour,” Stories in the Hills takes a local approach to feature a handful of speakers who pitch, rehearse and present their stories to the public based on a pre-determined theme. The theme Tuesday, Nov. 7, was “An Important Event in my Life,” where six Fountain Hills-based storytellers shared their stories.
After a warm welcome from the creator of Stories in the Hills Carol Kubota and President of FHFL Barb Esposito, Rich Stuka kicked off the event with “Corner of the Devil,” a tale that showed how hard work, luck and a short-staffed Escondido high school changed the trajectory of his entire life.
