It appears to be open season on Councilman Allen Skillicorn. Of 13 letters to the editor in the Times opinions this past week, 12 had something negative to say about Allen. They also attacked the Town Council majority for their actions in removing Skillicorn's sanction.
Let me remind readers, the current council majority was determined at the last election.. by the voters. Some of those candidates who now comprise that majority won by respectable margins. And, of course, Mayor Gerry Friedel won by a goodly amount over Mayor Ginny Dickey.
So, if the opinion writers who regularly beat up on duly elected council members in print and in person at council meetings have any respect for our political process, they would settle down and allow their fellow citizens to govern. Should their actions and policies become unacceptable, or incorrect, the voters will make their views known at the ballot box. Clearly opinion writers were diligent in casting their votes for their preferred candidates, but unfortunately Fountain Hills voters chose others.
Finally, Councilman Skillicorn was heavily criticized for showing interest in running for another office. That's his right and does nothing to diminish his continued service on the Fountain Hills Town Council. Saturday I personally heard him announce he is running for Constable in 2026 but fully intends to finish his council term.
