Stephen “Steve” Alan Johnson, 70, of Walker, Minn. and Fountain Hills, passed away at his Arizona home Sunday morning, Jan. 25, 2015.
Steve was born July 20, 1944 in Michigan City, Ind., the youngest son of James and Mildred Johnson.
He graduated high school from Michigan City where he played on the Red Devils football team. Following high school he attended DeVry Electrical School in Chicago. In 1962 he joined basic training in Ft. Jackson, S.C. In 1965 he went to work for Bethlehem Steel, then on to Colorado where he worked at the Coors Brewery until 1974.
He and his family then moved to Minnesota and purchased the Lake Edward Resort in the Brainerd Lakes area which they ran until 1978. During that time he also worked for Bartley Supply Company out of Minneapolis.
From 1985 to 2004 he worked in sales for Goodin Company out of Minneapolis while also owning two storage facilities in the Brainerd Lakes area.
Steve was an avid sports enthusiast favoring those Chicago teams. He was a true patriot, having great respect for the flag and what it stands for. He loved boating, relaxing at the lake, golfing, cooking, entertaining and spending time with friends.
In his spare time he was an usher at the Salt River Fields in Arizona. He was a member of the American Legion in Walker, Hope Lutheran Church of Walker and The Fountains Methodist Church of Fountain Hills.
Steve will be joining his family that went before him who include his parents, James and Mildred, a beloved aunt, Marge; and brothers, Roger and Stewart.
He leaves behind the love of his life, Kay; daughter, Amanda Johnson; son James Michael (Jessica) Johnson of Pequot Lakes; step-daughter Amy (Jon) Knowles of Walker; and three grandchildren, Alex, Molly and Madeline.
A memorial service will be held June 13 at 11 a.m. at Hope Lutheran Church in Walker, Minn.
Steve’s care has been entrusted to Messinger Fountain Hills Mortuary.
