Spend and spend

Kudos to a few writers in last week’s opinion page, at least some people get it.

First off, let’s talk schools; why have no pro- school bond individuals ever once mentioned a totally empty school here in town that has to be worth millions? Oh, that is right, they don’t want you to remember that. I would bet there would be a bidding war between Realtors in town to list that property.

Full-day kindergarten: I read some baloney kids learn faster; what happened to parents sitting down with kids and a book?

Kids learn right and wrong from parents, not a classroom full of kids goofing around. To me it seems like free babysitting for some parents.

Renovations are one thing, but when you have to have the best of the best of the best, that is so outrageous nobody in their right mind would spend like that on their home if they were paying out of their own pocket; artificial turf is more craziness, which is nothing but an injury waiting to happen. It may be pretty, but pretty doesn’t win football games.

Now school safety; all of a sudden a problem, not too many months ago when the Sheriff’s Office and Posse had a drill at our abandoned school, and it was the biggest stink in town, from some people and our most insignificant council members.

School busses; I have never seen an unsafe looking bus in town, and how many busses do we have unused sitting? These busses probably average less than 50 miles a day; the longest trip is probably to meet for coffee after morning route.

I don’t believe better schools are going to attract everyone, especially when they look at our spending habits.
