Every time some politicians want to create a new tax or increase an existing one, they create a crisis. I drive El Pueblo and Grande every day. There is some cracking and peeling. None of the paving is crumbling under my tires. The peeling is not deeper than a recessed manhole cover. Nowhere in town can you find a hole big enough to put a “pot” into it.
Can you imagine if there were several major road repaving projects happening at the same time? We are having a tough time just navigating Saguaro. Just recently a major car accident happened because of not following the signage on Saguaro.
If there is such a dire need for road repairs, why did the council approve a $2 million upgrade to the Avenue of the Fountains median?

We have been financing all the paving in our town since incorporation with bonds. Unlike a town property tax when the bond is paid off the tax goes away.
Scottsdale this year acknowledged that the 2 percent they are allowed to raise their property tax is hurting their citizens on a fixed income. They declined to raise the tax. They could raise it every year by 2 percent forever. There is no way this tax could “only” be used to pave streets. Once they get it they can use the monies for anything.
The town’s income is starting to increase. The Park Place $100 million project and also new construction in several plats around town will bring in the following.
An increase in population will bring additional state revenue money. New sales tax from new people, businesses and construction workers. Permit and impact fee will help pay town personnel.
There is no need to pave Fountain Hills Blvd. We should wait till the 2000-acre plat is built.
