Sidewalk plan presented to council

The Town Council last week heard how staff is planning to spend $40,000 in the budget for sidewalk construction in the downtown area.

Development Services Director Paul Mood said five projects have been identified based on priorities set in the town’s voter-approved 2010 General Plan.

The five areas include work at the intersections of La Montana Drive and Parkview Ave., Palisades Boulevard and Parkview, Verde River Drive and Parkview and at Saguaro Boulevard and Parkview.

The work totals roughly 4,700 square feet of new sidewalk.

Individually, the work at La Montana and Parkview will extend the existing sidewalk on the southeast corner from the business where it stops to the intersection.

This requires 870 square feet of concrete, an ADA ramp at the intersection, relocation of a sign and handrail.

On Palisades Boulevard the project would extend existing sidewalk on the south side from existing walkway to the intersection with Verde River Drive.

This work includes 1,308 square feet of concrete sidewalk and ADA ramp at the intersection, landscape removal and slope grading.

At Verde River Drive and Parkview the new sidewalk would be installed on the southeast corner of the intersection.

This includes 1,230 square feet of new sidewalk, an ADA ramp at the intersection, relocation of water meters and slope grading.

Along Parkview Avenue just west of Saguaro Boulevard work on the north side of the street will require 840 square feet of concrete, an ADA ramp at a driveway, sign relocation, water meter and backflow preventer relocation and relocation of a fire hydrant.

On the south side of Parkview at Saguaro the existing sidewalk would be extended to a driveway. This requires 450 square feet of sidewalk, an ADA ramp at the driveway and removal and relocation of rip rap material.

Mood said the next step is to bid the construction, and the bids will need to come back for council approval.
