The summer of 2016 is kind of a blur for me.

We took our vacation in early July in Monterey, Calif., enjoying the beauty of the Central Coast, while at the same time freezing our toes off. To borrow a quote from Mark Twain, “We spent the coldest winter ever in Monterey in July.” It was a lovely time, though. Great food, great company, relaxing, memorable.

We got the vacation out of the way so I could spend the rest of the summer with a broken wrist, pelvis, a couple of bones in my face and a very big bonk on my head. I spent five days in the hospital and six more in rehab before I got to go home…for seven more weeks.

We got the vacation out of the way so I could spend the rest of the summer with a broken wrist, pelvis, a couple of bones in my face and a very big bonk on my head. I spent five days in the hospital and six more in rehab before I got to go home…for seven more weeks.

I don’t want you to feel sorry for me. Things like this happen all the time. But here’s the thing: I am not a good sitter. I am fidgety. I get antsy if I have to stay in one spot too long. I don’t care how many broken bones I may have, I need to get up and do stuff.

Unfortunately, you really can’t do much when your main hand is in a big splint, you have to sit down pretty often because your pelvis hurts and your glasses were broken in the big fall.

My sweet husband, who doctored me through this ordeal, was able to put a temporary fix on my glasses until I was well enough to get to the eye doctor. At least I could see the TV.

However, TV Land is not where I like to be when I am forced to be home (or even if I’m not forced). But you adjust. I logged about 20 hours of The Office (you can kind of see what I was thinking about while I passed the days). I was a little disappointed that I did not finish all nine seasons before I returned to work, but I am now living in a real office, with real funny stuff going on. I like that better.

I read a lot, worked three jigsaw puzzles and pined away for my regular life.

But here’s the thing: It was weird being off work all that time. But my treasured co-workers kept me apprised of all the stuff going on in Fountain Hills and at the office. And the cards sent to me from many Fountain Hills residents and organizations really cheered me up.

I have kept them all with an idea that someday when my writing hand is working a LOT better, I will send little notes to everyone individually to say thank you for your concern and good wishes. Meanwhile, please accept my thanks en masse for your caring.

You people are the awesomest!
