The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office has received a grant through the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety in the amount of $251,273 to conduct DUI Enforcement and Education throughout Maricopa County.
This grant will assist deputies and detention officers with overtime while supporting both the East Valley and West Valley DUI Taskforces. This grant will also assist with Underage Consumption Enforcement, Drug Recognition Expert certifications and enforcement related materials, supplies and enforcement-related equipment.
The Sheriff’s Office participates in DUI taskforces in conjunction with every law enforcement agency across Maricopa County. The Sheriff’s Office also participates in community events informing citizens of the perils of impaired driving and providing education about alcohol consumption.

Sheriff's office receives DUI grant

The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office has received a grant through the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety in the amount of $251,273 to conduct DUI Enforcement and Education throughout Maricopa County.

The Sheriff’s Office participates in DUI taskforces in conjunction with every law enforcement agency across Maricopa County. The Sheriff’s Office also participates in community events informing citizens of the perils of impaired driving and providing education about alcohol consumption.
In the previous calendar year the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office has participated in DUI Taskforces, Youth Alcohol Enforcement Details and Know Your Limit Educational Details all over the county.
MCSO personnel have also provided training to hundreds of law enforcement officers from around the state and the country in topics of drug impaired driver detection and enforcement.
During enforcement details throughout Maricopa County in the last grant cycle, the Sheriff’s Office contacted nearly 1,300 people and produced a total of 446 DUI arrests with a average BAC of .142. MCSO also cited 196 subjects for Underage Consumption and issued 880 citations for both civil and criminal violations of motor vehicle law.
The funds provided through the Arizona Governor’s office of Highway Safety will allow for the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office to continue serving the citizens of Maricopa County with DUI Enforcement and related education.
