Schweers: We have willingly voted away our freedoms

Posted

Does anyone else see the tragic irony of freedom-loving, flag-waving, ultra-patriotic, America-first, MAGA Republicans pushing so hard to elect a man who very publicly and often told us exactly what he planned to do:  dismantle our institutions and constitution, take away individual freedoms, use the Justice Department to exact revenge on his opposition (by deporting, incarcerating or maybe even using the firing squad), to make our country more like his admired Russia or North Korea with himself as Dear Leader?

Well, they got what they wanted and Trump is rushing to fulfill his promises by nominating the worst, most unqualified candidates for each cabinet position — most with histories of wanting to demolish the very departments they’ve been chosen to lead. In every case, he’s nominated the proverbial wolf to guard the henhouse. This is extremely serious!

Inept leaders of the DOJ, DOD and Intelligence Services will put us and our allies in grave danger. Countries won't trust us or share intelligence, and the proposed cleaning-house of experienced military leaders will disorganize our defenses and embolden our enemies.

Letting greedy invested billionaires make decisions on environmental issues will be disastrous for our planet. Denial of facts never works, as evidenced by the millions lost in the pandemic. Disregarding experts on science and our health in favor of anti-vaxers and conspiracy theorists (who are already responsible for the resurgence of measles and polio) is downright unconscionable and cruel to our children.

Anyone who objected to mask-wearing or vaccinating during the pandemic, prepare for a world with absolutely no personal freedoms or rights. Dear Leader will always be watching, ready to call out the army to control and punish any dissent, opposing beliefs, unapproved information, or personal healthcare decisions.

It’s unfathomable that we willingly voted away freedoms our veterans fought and died for.
