In October 2009, Sunland Asphalt provided a bid of $2.4 million to recycle four inches of existing and base material into new asphalt plus adding a one-inch rubber asphalt hot mix.
This is not the same as the $8.2 million that the project has become. This project has grown because additional work must be done on the substrata because of the type of soil and the replacement of the types of curbs that were put on top of the asphalt.

Regarding the Saguaro road bond issue…
In October 2009, Sunland Asphalt provided a bid of $2.4 million to recycle four inches of existing and base material into new asphalt plus adding a one-inch rubber asphalt hot mix.
This is not the same as the $8.2 million that the project has become. This project has grown because additional work must be done on the substrata because of the type of soil and the replacement of the types of curbs that were put on top of the asphalt.
This type of curb is no longer acceptable to state bode. For the most part, the curbing is in good condition.
A budget has been proposed to redo the Avenue of the Fountains, which has been delayed. These funds used in the downtown area could be used to offset some of the $8.2 million.
Yes, I agree this project should be done, but I think it should be done for a lesser amount of approximately $6 million and the five-year bond payoff is an excellent idea.
