A class action lawsuit challenging how the Maricopa County Assessor classifies residential properties has the potential to cost taxing entities, including the Rio Verde Fire District hundreds of thousands of dollars in the coming years.
According to an email sent to residents by fire district officials, the county has notified the district that the suit will cost the district approximately $800,000 in funding which needs to be paid to the county by June 30, 2025.
The district is calling on residents to contact state and county officials with any concerns they may have about the potential impact on emergency services in the Verdes. An email statement sent June 11 is signed by Fire District Board Chairman George Kattermann and Fire Chief Scott Krushak.
