Rotary program

There are a number of valid programs that support American wounded veterans. The Fountain Hills Rotary Club and its Foundation are planning a foundation fund dedicated to supporting wounded veterans of all wars. Today we have a Fountain Hills resident of the Iraq war who suffers 70 percent disability; he could use some help that our government does not provide.

Brian Martin, past president of the Fountain Hills Rotary and board member of The Fountain Hills Rotary Foundation, a 501C3 tax exempt organization, thought of this mechanism; private financial support could quickly alleviate certain money problems encountered by the best of us.

All candidates will remain anonymous, as with all Rotary projects no administrative costs or other Rotary member expenses will be retired with the proceeds of this fund. Every dollar will be used for the specific veteran’s benefit.

We seek to help Fountain Hills veterans as our primary beneficiaries; we were able to help a Chandler veteran who suffered trauma that required 52 back operations in one year. The Four Peaks Rotary joined that project.

After the project was completed I visited him; what a reward it was to see his relief through the pain he lives with every day. Bittersweet.

Simply stated, these projects get screwed up with red tape of other organizations; we identify the problem and take care of the problem. That’s the reason we are developing this program. I'll have more news next week on how you can help.
