After reading the recent proposals regarding revisions for the planned lagoon project, I still feel this is a colossal folly in the making. I don’t see how this is going to miraculously draw crowds of people to spend extra money in Fountain Hills and fill the town coffers.
People will not drive all the way to our town for this kind of experience when far more elaborate water parks already exist in the Phoenix area. More importantly, the waste water, barrier integrity and animal fecal problems are just not worth the financial burden.

“Return on investment” is not written all over the proposal. If this is the best plan to increase town revenue, then perhaps we do need to simply increase taxes to meet our community’s needs. Sometimes that is just necessary.
I would much prefer public funds being spent on a public pool, as many communities do (Moab, UT, pop. 5,000+ and Monroe, WI, pop. 10,000, both manage nice pools despite being small towns). Schedules could be arranged to accommodate children, high school sports, lap time for adults and senior exercise; our whole community would benefit versus random visitors. Just a suggestion.
In addition, I do think citizens are legitimately furious that substantial sums of money were spent for feasibility studies on the lagoon without approval of residents. Folks should remember this when we vote next time for town council.
