Resignation

A couple weeks ago this paper interviewed Councilman Yates on his intentions regarding the timing of his official decision to run for mayor. His intent is obvious and there is no requirement that he wait until the deadline to file papers.

Cecil is choosing to deliberately prevent the voters from deciding his replacement. I guess he doesn’t trust that you and I are smart enough. Cecil thinks that one more month on council creates fear in his opponent, Ginny Dickey. Cecil thinks that all these boards and committees will be rudderless without his presence.

Typical are the ways of the politically motivated, blind to their constituent’s wishes. Rather than doing what’s in the best interest of the voters, Cecil chooses to tell us what’s in our best interest.

Cecil asserts that Dickey supporters are making this an issue. I’m not sure I understand that defective logic. Cecil must resign to run and whether or not he does it in time to allow a replacement candidate to be on the ballot has absolutely no effect on the mayoral race. Cecil’s inane recitation of Arizona statutes to wrongly conclude that is doesn’t apply to him is emblematic of constricted thinking and clouded judgment. Cecil’s interpretation that he cannot resign now to give someone an opportunity to be placed on the ballot is worrisome.

If you trust that those remaining on council – including Mayor Kavanagh, Art Tolis and the others that brought you the lagoon study – you will be pleased with Cecil’s decision. I am not. If you want this despotic type of leadership serving our community you will vote for Cecil. I will not.
