The local Reform Jewish community has formed Beth Havigot Havurah of Fountain Hills.

Meaning “fellowship” in Hebrew, a havurah is a small group of like-minded Jews who assemble to facilitate Shabbat and holiday prayer services and share communal experiences such as lifecycle events or Jewish learning.

The group plans to have monthly activities, ranging from Shabbat dinners, holiday events, movies and museum visits and book discussions.

The inaugural event will be a Shabbat potluck dinner at 6:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 9 at a member’s home in Fountain Hills.

The discussion will be “Getting to know you, my path to the Jewish life I lead today.”

To join the group, call Diane at 203-984-9563 for a potluck assignment. Seats are quickly filling at the table.

A Chanukah party also is planned from 5 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 2, the first night of Chanukah, at the home of a member.

The menu will include Chanukah latkes, sufganiyot (sweet Chanukah donuts) and other goodies. If interested in attending a Havurah event or joining, contact Susie Pringle at 480-471-7339.

Your name will be added to a mailing list to receive notices of Havurah events.
