Ralph M. Botello

Ralph M. “Pel” Botello, 94, passed away Sunday, Jan. 11, 2015 in his home of four years in Fountain Hills with his daughter Pat and son-in-law Charlie Vascellaro at his side.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Lupe C. Botello.

Ralph was born in San Bernardino, Calif. Pel was preceded in death by his parents Guadalupe and Cuca; brothers, Luz, Julian, Jess and Lin; and survived by brother, Joe; sisters, Linda Alvarado, Merie Ibarra, Lupe Botello, and Esther Montecino.

Ralph had grandsons Charlie Vascellaro of Baltimore, Md., and Chris Vascellaro of San Diego, Cal.; granddaughter Stefanie Morse; grandson-in-law, Walter Morse, and great-grandson, Dylan Morse, and great-granddaughter, Courtney Morse, from Bridgewater, N.J.

The Botello boys were known for their love of baseball. Pel continued playing into adulthood and transferred into coaching 13-14 year old boys in Pony League. For 25 years he managed the Ed Heil Stars and was involved in the building of the Wildwood Baseball Park on 40th and Waterman.

During the breakout of WWII he joined the Army/Air Force and left the service with the rank of Staff Sergeant. Upon being honorably discharged he began his training with the Santa Fe Railroad and retired as a sheet metal worker.

From July 1991 to March 2004 Ralph was on the Animal Control Commission for the City of San Bernardino.

Ralph and Lupe Botello were also active members of the San Bernardino Democratic Club.

Graveside services were held Monday, Jan. 19, 2015 at Mt. View Mortuary & Cemetery, 570 E. Highland Avenue, San Bernardino, Calif.
