Question of the Week: Are freeways the best way to get from here to there?

Posted

Since the mid-1980s, the Valley has built its regional freeway system, which moves tens of thousands of people every day. Population continues to grow. Lane expansion is inevitable. New freeways are coming to both the East and West valleys. Are freeways still the best way to move the masses? Cars, insurance and gas are expensive. Air pollution is not getting better. Is it time to consider other options, like a regional rail system, as the next step, just as freeways were in the 1980s? It would require great time, money and commitment — just as the freeway system did. But in the end, would it be worth it?
