Predictions

I have been asked how I feel about the town council’s projected financial shortfall and their predictions of doom and gloom if we don’t approve a town property tax. I think I can fill a page in The Fountain Hills Times with all the projections, predictions and lawsuits this council and previous councils have made or gotten us into. Recently, how about the half-million dollars in development fees at Park Place? Fortunately, resolved with no lawsuit.

Here’s one I want to share with you. During the 1980s, one of the town council members said that as we were rapidly approaching build-out, we must widen Fountain Hills Blvd., as it would be our main entrance. When I was allowed to speak, I explained to them that I was just in the developer’s offices after buying lots in plat 206. I saw a model of the next plat called Sunridge Canyon, which clearly showed plans to open Palisades Boulevard from Shea Boulevard to Golden Eagle Boulevard.

When we incorporated we passed a rule, I believe #40, which stated any roads in and around a building project or new plat will be paved and paid for by the developer. Obviously Palisades would become our main entrance, and Fountain Hills Boulevard a secondary road at best, and it still is. Not built out: Firerock, Crest View, Eagle Mountain, Eagles Nest, other plats, have empty lots.

The past presidential election was not as much decided on who was running, as it was about being against the status quo in Washington, D.C. Those of us against a town property tax don’t trust how town councils will spend the money. We just got through the Great Recession without it. Think the first 30 million will go to roads?
