I want to tell of a wonderful experience that a group of Fountain Hills residents had at Monroe’s restaurant on Cinco de Mayo evening.

The margaritas, the plate of nachos and the quesadillas were some of the best we have ever had!

There have been several nasty comments around town about Monroe’s, and most of them have been very unkind. I have lived in Fountain Hills for 17 years, and I have seen many restaurants come and go. Most of them have failed because in a small town word will get around that gives them a good or unfavorable reputation.

When a new restaurant starts up, it needs time to work things out. We need time to give them a chance.

A friend of mine went to Monroe’s and asked for a tilapia entrée. Because they had run out of the entrée, the waiter brought the customer lobster tail instead for the same price. Now that is going above and beyond.

When I taught first and second grades for many years, if an unkind word was said to a student by another, I had the student that said the comment write three kind sentences about the child and read them to him or her.

Perhaps some of the people who are responsible for the unkind and hurtful words said or published can do the same. Let’s support Monroe’s and our new restaurants in town and give them a chance.
