Residents and visitors who stroll along the Avenue of the Fountains this holiday season are sure to enjoy the sight of one of the community’s most beautiful and beloved traditions: the annual live Poinsettia Tree.
Constructed Friday, Dec. 6, by members of the Fountain Hills Leadership Academy (FHLA) and officially unveiled at the Fountain Hills Stroll in the Glow celebration the next day, the tree is made of 250 live red poinsettia plants, punctuated with white sprigs.
A hand-crafted wooden topper sits at the pinnacle of the tree, adorned on both sides with white doves bearing golden olive branches.

Two A-frame boards stand on either side of the tree to highlight the names of donors, with 144 heartfelt messages to honor or remember someone special.
This is the 26th anniversary of the Poinsettia Tree and the eighth year it has been organized by members of the current FHLA class, who work together to create each year’s new rendition.
Dedications received by Nov. 26 are displayed on the boards, but donations after that date continue to be accepted until 5 p.m. on Jan. 1, with names included on the Poinsettia Tree video that will be posted online after the holidays.
Tax-deductible Poinsettia Tree donations are $20 each for members of I Love Fountain Hills or $25 each for non-members and can be placed online at ILoveFountainHills.org/poinsettia-tree/ using a credit card or PayPal.
