Phoenix moves forward with plans to bring red-light cameras back this year

Phoenix City Council took the next step toward bringing red-light cameras back this year, agreeing last week to pay Mesa-based Verra Mobility $12 million to operate the systems.

Council members previously stated they plan to have the cameras in 10-12 locations and operational by fall, though they would begin with an educational period before ticketing starts. The cameras will monitor both red-light running and speeding through intersections.
