Peaks Rotary keeps active

The Four Peaks Rotary Club’s last meeting was a busy one, with a presentation on a Rotary Microcredit program in Mexico, induction of two new members and presentation of the teacher of the month award.

Speaker Terry Lubsen from the San Tan Valley Rotary Club spoke about Rotary’s Microcredit Mexican lending program in Nogales and Hermosillo, Mexico.

The program makes loans available to individuals operating mostly small, family-run businesses. These types of loans are generally not otherwise available in Mexico, so the Rotary program fills a vital need.

Successful borrowers, 86 percent of whom are women, report that their children can attend school full time, their family eats healthier meals on a regular basis, living conditions are improved and enough cash is available to allow them to escape the day-to-day uncertainty of their former life.

The Four Peaks Rotary Club presented Lubsen a $1,000 check for the program. Contributions from individuals or other clubs are welcome; contact terrylubsen@yahoo.com or call 480-699-9649 or 480-250-8159.

In other business, Four Peaks welcomed two new members, Dick Peitzmeier and Jack Reynolds.

Reynolds is a long-time Rotarian transferring his membership to the Four Peaks club. Both spoke of their interest in becoming involved in the Fountain Hills community.

Four Peaks Rotarian Paul Perreault presented the club’s teacher of the month award to Lisa Ristuccia, a second- and third-grade teacher at Fountain Hills Charter School.

Ristuccia has taught at the school for five years and was nominated by Principal Tom Cox.

The club’s next meeting will be Thursday, Feb. 12, from 6:45 to 8 a.m., and the speaker will be Maricopa County Attorney Bill Montgomery.

The new meeting location is at Fountain View Village, second floor restaurant, 16455 E. Avenue of the Fountains. Enter at the main entrance near the flagpole. Anyone interested in Rotary is invited to attend.

If one would like to attend, contact membership chairman Bill Pape at 480-390-1395 or email him at BillPape@cox.net, and to learn more, visit FourPeaksRotary.org or facebook.com/FourPeaksRotaryAZ.
