Park signs

Thank you Councilman Tait Elkie for proposing that the Parks and Rec “plan” for three monument signs at Fountain Park be put on hold for now and thank you to all council members who voted yes to this proposed hold.

In short, council is being asked to approve three block wall monument signs identifying “Fountain Park” (at $30,000) and one having a LED screen sign above it totaling 11 feet high (at $60,000). The LED sign is proposed to be turned off at 10 p.m.

Mark Mayer (Parks & Rec) stated to council that the signage is needed to inform people: 1. where Fountain Park is located; 2. scheduled activity dates and times.

Mayer added that even though some who asked him what was happening at the park did indeed state they receive The Times newspaper but they did not read it.

The proposed 11-foot high LED screen and monument location is to be on the southeast corner of Saguaro and Palisades.

The other two Fountain Park monument signs are to be located at El Lago and Saguaro and at the park’s El Lago parking lot entrance.

The Saguaro/Palisades block wall monument is now being looked into for council without the pricey added LED display screen. Yet the adjusted proposal being sought is to include the cost of installing the electric to the monument wall during construction.

I’m emailing my opinion to each council member...and the precedent for multiple large LED signage this will set in this town.

I encourage you to either call Parks and Rec to validate what was proposed or watch the May 1, 2014 council meeting on youtube.com...and express your own opinion to council members, please.
