PAC reports

I’ve noticed that the Kavanagh “Good Government” PAC has its share of difficulty. Not only is it creating smear campaigns against mayoral candidate Ginny Dickey, but the committee chaired by John Kavanagh just can’t seem to figure out who it is or how to complete disclosure reports.

That seems odd since a veteran politician, Kavanagh, is so involved in the political process that he even tries to make laws affecting candidates and voting.

First, the “Good Government” committee filed its statement of organization on May 17 only to have to amend it on May 24; I suppose the Kavanaghs either didn’t think both of them should be on the committee (the mayor was named treasurer – maybe she had second thoughts when she visualized a smear role in the effort as a violation of her Code of Conduct), or they needed a better treasurer. They went with Lina Belliner instead.

And then those pesky finance reports. On July 15, the PAC filed its first financial report only to leave out significant information on a contributor. So, after somebody called them out on it, on July 20, they filed an amended report.

Now, in the report filed on Aug. 15, they’ve messed up again. Sadly, it is also on the contributor page of the report; seems like now they don’t want to report the dates that those contributions were made (including one by an auto dealer in Tucson and a lobbyist in Phoenix). All of this when there is a clear disclosure at the bottom of the cover page stating, “All reports are deemed to be filed under penalty of perjury by the committee treasurer...”

In the name of “good government,” you’d think they’d be as concerned about what they report as they are certainly concerned about who they attack!
