Outrage

A video showing a U.S. border agent gleefully destroying and pouring out bottles of water left in the desert to prevent immigrant deaths exposes the intentionally sadistic underbelly of this administration’s border policies and the desperate need for reorganizing, retraining and strict oversight of those on the front lines.

The very idea that people representing our government and dealing with human beings, desperate families with children traveling long distances to seek legal asylum, could show such delight in cruelty is extremely disgusting and unacceptable.

Sadly Trump, with his false propaganda, has created a view of refugees as less-than-human criminals and rapists, looking for free stuff and very dangerous; encouraging people to operate on fear and their most vile instincts and to be OK with this inhumane treatment.

It’s against all acceptable norms for the Trump administration to jail children in horrible facilities without proper medical care or any semblance of emotional support. Such horrific treatment has caused permanent trauma and even death to children who are treated only as prisoners.

Recently, a 7-year-old girl died before being allowed to receive treatment and Trump’s “metering” has forced families to live in squalid conditions for months in Mexico, awaiting legal entry to seek asylum. The United Nations has declared us in violation of human rights.

Our immigration policy is a financial windfall for the private prison industry, Trump’s friends, but disastrous for those fleeing violence and seeking asylum. Our country no longer welcomes the “huddled masses yearning to breathe free.” Instead, we traumatize them. Where’s the outrage?

Zero tolerance has not made us safer! The previous administration allowed refugees to live with their sponsors until their court dates. It worked, cost a fraction of what our current policy does and was humane.
