Maybe our voters need a Paul Revere type alarm. I’m hereby sending our wakeup call.
Our town derives income from its fame as the location of our namesake fountain and its park, as well as our major tourist attraction events; the Great Fair, disc golf tournaments, St. Patrick’s Day, July 4th, movies and concerts in the park, weddings, family gatherings, etc.
When the Fountain Park lake liner fails, its replacement will create a multi-million dollar project. This is not a “what if.” This will happen in the next few years. The town will need funding on hand to correct the situation as soon as possible. Lack of funds will mean replacement could draw out from months (with available funding) into a year or years.

Those of us living here back in 2000 can recall what the costly liner replacement process was like. Park and town events will have to be postponed or canceled.
The park, as a community gathering place, will be lost to us. No more al fresco meals at the restaurants adjoining the park. No more walks around the lake. Huge losses of tourists to visit and spend cash in town restaurants and stores. Our town’s brand diminishes.
The trickle down of just this one unfunded event will become a flood of loss to our town.
And what happens when the next disaster hits? The aging Fountain machinery will also need replacing at some point.
Our namesake fountain and lake could have to go away for a while – or even forever – if we don’t have the funds to keep them maintained. If that happens, we will suffer a significant loss of property values. For more information, visit savefh.com. Vote yes May 15.
