OPM

Our politicians are addicted to OPM, spending Other People’s Money. They spend it on all manner of foolishness and there is just never enough.

This property tax is forever. From then on they take from you as much as they want, increasing up to 2 percent every year, and give you whatever they want. Rest assured, the money will be spent, if necessary by pouring it down a rat hole.

Why would anyone think people who would consider a lagoon for more than thirty seconds are qualified to spend other people’s money wisely? This tax will be like the relative that just won’t leave, leaching off the taxpayers long after these councilmembers are thrown out.

You are probably already paying $7 a day or more – say $10-$20 in property tax, every day – just to live in your own home. Now add $1.34 a day to the $7 and that’s a 19 percent increase.

Most residents’ taxes will go up $300 to $1,000 or more the first year alone. Wait until you try to sell your home and can’t because the taxes are ridiculously high.

This tax is being sold like a payday loan. “It just costs pennies a day and will turn the town into paradise.” Actually, the town is pretty nice right now; not broken. Let’s not mess it up.

What could possibly go wrong with this property tax? Falling home values, recall petitions, businesses boycotted by unhappy residents. Just vote no on the tax, current waste and mismanagement.

Remember the $750,000 spent on the Fountain Park path lights and $30,000 for a lagoon study. That is a lot of lake liner.
