Off to a good start in Fountain Hills

Posted

Welcome to every new baby born in Fountain Hills. You all picked an amazing place.

The same goes to the first baby in our town to be born in the parking lot of our Town Hall back in April. Every baby comes into the world in its own unique way, but few have the excitement of this one born on April 30 in a parking lot on the way to a planned hospital setting. Here is the best part, the Fountain Hills Times Independent reported that “the individuals were all in good spirits.”

While the general public makes little or no connection between early experiences and later life, there is one, a wonderful one. In reality, every minute counts, with the early ones being the most impactful. While many people know about new and gentle ways that have been added to the birth process, few know what is most important at the time, and that is the spirit.

Here is what it says about the newborn stage (birth to three months) in my latest developmental advice book, “Fun Baby Learning Games”: “The newest member of your family has just arrived. During this exciting time of introduction keep your parent-child interactions focused on welcoming your baby. In addition, as you play, talk and create, know that you are setting up patterns that will last a lifetime. As you notice evidences of growth each day, be sure to express your happiness to your baby. Stay with your new little one as much as you can so as not to miss even one little spurt of development. Keep enjoying anything and everything.”

As a professor of early childhood education and parenting specialist, I teach daily about the “magic of the early years,” “love” and “joy” being at the heart of what keeps everything going right.
