At its Nov. 20 regular session the Town Council voted 7-0 to authorize staff to issue a request for proposals for a solar services agreement.
The RFP would provide information on the benefits and issues related to installing solar collection panels on covered parking in Cutillo Plaza surrounding Town Hall and the Community Center.
The process would obtain pricing from qualified firms to provide a privately-owned solar photovoltaic energy system.

Nov. 20, Town Council action
Posted
Vendors would be providing answers to questions posed by council members in earlier discussions.
Mayor Linda Kavanagh wants to receive public input regarding the aesthetics of such a project (possibly similar to what is currently being installed at the Safeway shopping plaza).
Councilman Tait Elkie said the information from the RFP is necessary to determine what the system will look like.
“I believe the feedback will come,” Councilman Henry Leger said. “I support the RFP process to consider the impact on our budget, and this will be lit adding a public safety factor.”
*The council directed Town Engineer Randy Harrel to work with SRP on proposed projects using Municipal Aesthetic Funds from the utility.
This is long-term planning with a deadline looming to make project proposals. The projects include an already approved plan for installing lines underground through Adero Canyon; an SRP “smart router” system using 11 faux saguaros as equipment; and other underground installations.
SRP makes the funds available with something similar to a grant program. There is approximately $1.8 million in funds available.
*The Town Council voted to accept two alabaster sculptures by Navajo artist Alvin Marshall. The pieces are valued at $14,500 and are being donated by local resident Virginia Madek.
The artwork will be placed on display in the Community Center lobby.
