The Town of Fountain Hills is considering revising its noise ordinance.
The proposed ordinance would allow music to 85 decibels until 11 p.m. and 75 decibels after that.
Eighty-five decibels is very loud. In fact, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health recommends controlling noise levels to below 85 decibels in order to minimize noise-induced hearing loss.

By comparison, Scottsdale only allows 68 decibels and Paradise Valley only allows 55 decibels. Since decibels are measured on a logarithmic scale, 85 decibels is four times louder than 65 and eight times louder than 55 decibels.
Why should the residents of Fountain Hills be subjected to higher noise limits than our neighbors?
If the quiet enjoyment of your home is important to you, I urge you to contact the Planning and Zoning Commission, the Mayor and the Town Council and let them know your thoughts on this issue.
