For more than two decades, Extended Hands Food Bank has been a quiet constant in Fountain Hills, helping neighbors put food on the table through economic swings, population growth and rising costs. As the new year begins, the organization is entering a new chapter with a move to a more central location and a renewed focus on meeting a growing need.
Extended Hands Food Bank was founded 23 years ago by Pastor David Iverson. Today, leadership has come full circle. His granddaughter, Allyson Iverson, now serves as executive director, a role shaped by both her professional experience and personal history.
“I grew up around the food bank,” Iverson said. “My mom was a single parent, and there were four of us kids. I have been on both sides, as a volunteer and as someone who needed help. That perspective stays with me every day.”
