Nancy Ann Cummings passed away peacefully at Regency Hospital in Golden Valley, Minn., surrounded by her loving family.
Nancy was born Jan. 8, 1932 in Duluth, Minn. to Patrick and Seretha Hobbins. A graduate of Aitkin, Minn. High School Class of 1950, she attended St. Mary’s Hospital School of Nursing and St. Scholastica in Duluth, graduating in 1953 where she was named outstanding nurse of her class.
An accomplished and respected nurse and manager, Nancy was nursing director of Community Service Center Clinic, Mother Butler Clinic and United Community Clinic in Rapid City, S.D. from 1970 to 1987.
She was very active in community affairs in Rapid City, serving on many boards including West River Mental Health, Alcoholics Anonymous Units, Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA), Elderly Meals, Hospice of the Hills and the Society of St. Vincent de Paul in Fountain Hills.
She married Gregory Cummings Sept. 27, 1958. The couple moved to Rapid City, S.D. in 1970 where Greg was in the insurance business, first with Kluthe & Lane and then Cummings & Roll Insurance.
She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Joseph; daughters, Teresa and Mary; and son, Joseph; granddaughter, Molly (Anne and Perry Schmidt).
She is survived by her husband; daughters, Kathleen Wright-Csiba (George) of Broadview Heights, Ohio, Anne Schmidt (Perry) of Wayzata, Minn.; sons Kevin (Nancy) of Phoenix, and Michael (Megan) of Littleton, Colo.; grandchildren, Kristine and Mitchell (Wright), Megan, Ellen, Emily, and Michael (Schmidt), Olivia and Billy (Cummings), and Ava, Molly, and Rachel (Cummings); as well as sisters, Jeanine Hawkins (George) of St. Paul, Minn., Bonny Montero (Jim) of Houston, Texas, and Patty Nelson (Vernon) of Aitkin, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews.
Nancy was a woman of incredibly strong faith who loved and was loved by many, and will be sadly missed by all.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at Ascension Catholic church in Fountain Hills. In lieu of flowers or gifts, please donate to your preferred charity in Nancy’s name.
