As summer heats up and monsoon season approaches, mosquito activity is expected to rise across Maricopa County.
But thanks to year-round monitoring and collaborative response efforts, local officials are well-prepared to manage seasonal surges — and they’re encouraging residents to take small, proactive steps to keep their neighborhoods bite-free.
“We clean our parks a minimum of three times a week, all the way up to seven,” said Jeremy Figueroa, parks superintendent for the city of Goodyear. “Staff are always looking for anything out of the norm, whether a bench needs attention, there’s a sidewalk issue, or standing water that could become a concern.”
